Städel Museum

Founded in 1815 as a civic foundation by banker and merchant Johann Friedrich Städel, Städel Museum is regarded as the oldest and most renowned museum foundation in Germany.

The extensive collection offers an almost seamless overview of over 700 years of art history – from the early 14th century to the Renaissance and Baroque periods and classical Modernism to our present day. The Städel Museum collection comprises around 3,100 paintings, 660 sculptures, over 5,000 photographs and over 100,000 drawings and prints.

Highlights of the collection include works by Cranach, Dürer, Botticelli, Rembrandt, Vermeer, Monet, Picasso, Kirchner, Beckmann, Giacometti, Bacon, Richter, Tillmans or Wasmuht.
